Mask Mandate Update

At the Wednesday February 16^th School Committee meeting, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Peter Botelho proposed lifting the mask mandate in the Sharon public schools starting on March 14^th. While the state mask mandate will be lifted on February 28^th by governor’s order, Dr. Botelho cited concerns expressed by local public health officials about a potential spike in Omicron cases following the February school vacation. Given that likelihood, the Sharon Board of Health indicated it would be prudent to delay lifting the mandate to enable health department officials to track case numbers after the break at the end of February.  The School Committee, who heard extensive public comment on the proposal, will need to vote on this matter. Their next scheduled meeting is March 2^nd.
